On my last day in Erbil, I had the opportunity to go downtown to see the Citadel (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the market. The Citadel was unfortunately closed for visitors more important than my party of three; the armed guards at the gate guaranteed we didn’t stray where we weren’t allowed.
