Hello Iraq

I was recently invited to visit a school in Erbil, Iraq to provide training about our library automation system.  Of course I jumped at the opportunity!  Erbil is the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan and about 85km east of Mosul.  I departed Ankara just before midnight on a Saturday and arrived at 2am Sunday, getting some sleep time before a 10am pickup for school (the school week is Sunday through Thursday).  Morning view from my apartment on campus:

My mission was to train six women over the next three days about cataloging, circulation, and patron tabs in the library system.  The women were eager to learn and asked great questions, making the days go by quickly.

A tour around the school:

A few shots of the library:

I was delighted to do story time with a class of fourth graders:

Big smiles all around–even the “big kids” love story time!
