Republic Day in Turkey

Yesterday at 1pm, Turkey began the annual Republic Day holiday, a 35-hour celebration of Turkey’s declaration of independence which occurred on October 29, 1923.  We had five morning celebrations at school:  one in preK, one in kindergarten, two in the elementary school, one in the middle school, and one in the high school.  This holiday is one of honor and gratitude to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of this republic; it is comparable to the 4th of July in the United States.
